Wardrobe Audit

Two hours in your own home, going through what you already own, before you buy anything else. €120, credited against anything you buy in the following month.

This is the service that costs us money and we keep it anyway. Eleni and Sofia come to you — anywhere inside the Athens basin, and as far as Lavrio or Marathon if you can take a morning — and spend two hours on the wardrobe you already have. Nothing is sold, nothing is brought, and no catalogue comes out of a bag at the end.

The reason it works is that most wardrobes are not short of clothes. They are short of six or seven pieces that would make the rest of it usable, and those pieces are almost never the ones people are about to buy.

The two hours

  1. Everything outOn the bed, in four piles: worn this month, worn this year, not worn but kept for a reason, and not worn. The fourth pile is always the largest and nobody has ever guessed that in advance.
  2. Fit, not tasteSofia goes through the third pile with a tape measure. A surprising amount of it is one alteration away from the first pile — a waistband, a sleeve, a lining that has gone.
  3. The gapsEleni writes the list. It is usually shorter than people expect and duller than they hope: a trouser that fits over a boot, a knit that goes under a coat, one shirt that is not white.
  4. The letterA written summary reaches you within three days — what to alter, what to let go of, what to look for and roughly what it should cost, including where to buy the things we do not stock.

What happens to what we see

We do not photograph your house, we do not put anything on Instagram, and we do not keep a copy of the list once you have it unless you ask us to hold it against your name in the customer book. Two people have asked us to come back and do it again a year later. Both times the fourth pile was smaller, which is the only measure of this we have.
