Nobody here works on commission and nobody has a sales target. That is not a moral position so much as a practical one: the moment a stylist is paid on what leaves the shop, she stops being able to tell you that the coat does not suit you, and the only thing we actually sell is that sentence.
The shop closes for two weeks in August and everybody goes. There is no skeleton staff and the website does not ship during those weeks, which costs us a fortnight of summer trade and is not up for discussion.
